transformation

This is a series of drawings with dry pastels and metallic pencils. Images of branch sticks and butterflies. These works are inspired by Chinese traditional art, and European art (mainly draperies from antique and baroque period).

What fascinates me with traditional Chinese art, is minimalism and observation of nature. The fascination of elegant draperies, so common in European art , has been in me for years. In these drawing I take the freedom to create images, that combines these different art styles, and by doing so I create my own transformation.

Butterflies are symbol of change, symbol of life that is transforming. The texture of the butterflies wings is textile-like. Some of them are ripped up, which makes them fragile and yet beautiful.

Butterflies wings which looks like draperies, can create assosiasjons to silk , which is made of cocoons. Symbol of textile in butterflies wings, can also be seen as if moving some of transformation processes in time.

Drawings of branches are somehow more realistic. However the moss which is growing on them can be easily seen as textile draperies. At the same time composition of the picture, is strongly inspired by Chinese traditional art.
